Title: The Dairy of  LAURA'S TWIN

Author: Kathy Kacer

A few weeks before her Bat Mitzvah, Laura Wyman is given a really mysterious diary that was written by a girl named Sara Gittler more than sixty years ago, in a ghetto. Sara's age is about the same as Laura, but their lives are completely different. Sara lives in the Warsaw Ghetto, behind barbed wire and high walls, while Laura lives freely in a nice house. But, even though their lives are unlike, they share a simillar personality and some looks! As Laura reads the dairy she begins to put herself in Sara's shoes and understand how she has to struggle in the ghetto and find a way to survive. And by reading the dairy, Laura finds courage to confront the prejudice in her own time. This is a touching book about two girls with similar personalities but completely different lives. It's a book that must be read!

Main characters: Laura Wyman and Sara Gittler

Personalities:

Laura Wyman: Emotional, brave and does the right thing even if she will get into trouble

Sara Gittler: Brave, caring and wants to help even if the situation is dangerous

The relationship between Laura and Sara shows how two of them can be so alike, yet so different at the same time. The thing that makes the story so interesting is that Laura is a lot like Sara, so she can emphatise with Sara and know how she feels and lives. However, the story gets even more interesting as Sara starts neglecting her friends and paying more attention to the dairy.

I think that the author's purpose of writing this story is to tell the readers how fortunate we are. We live in comfortable flats, maybe condominiums, while those Jews living in the 1940s had to endure the tough conditions of the ghetto. This shows that we should preserve racial and religious harmony.

I learnt that we should write the stories as one of the characters inside, so that the readers will know our feelings, rather than let than guess a character's feelings just by lookig at he or she's expression. This way, the reader will be able to understand the character's plight and feelings, and they can imagine that they are in the story themselves.

Recommendation: The story is very interesting, as the author is using fiction to tell us about non-fiction.
